Manga are Movie Storyboards!
– Close coverage from the moment the manga comes to life –
The next Silent Manga in Action short film is going to be directed by Kazushi Watanabe, an energetic director at the forefront of the Japanese film industry. It’s set to be based on one of the works from the Comic Zenon Manga Audition, the domestic competition which served as the model for SILENT MANGA AUDITION®.
We’re going to be watching closely, and reporting to you the step-
by-step process of breathing life into this manga!
This is our 5th update!! Before we take you to the filming, we’d like to introduce two of the award-winning works that have already been made into short films!
Thanks to energetic creators, and an international cast, these works from SILENT MANGA AUDITION have already been brought to life. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you SILENT MANGA in ACTION!
These might give you some hints for the SMAC! MOVIE CONTEST, so please watch them carefully!!
These two short films were based on “Excuse Me” (Indonesia) and “SKY SKY” (Thailand), the Grand Prize winners of the first SILENT MANGA AUDITION.
Just like the works they were based on, these films don’t have any dialogue! The actors don’t actually say anything! Rather, the film is composed of images and music only.
Movie Adaption of “Excuse Me” by Alex Irzaqi of Indonesia
This film was directed by Ryuichi Hiroki, who is well known for his work on Yomei Ikkagetsu no Hanayome (lit. Bride with 1 month of life left) and Sayonara Kabukicho (lit. Goodbye Kabukicho). Playing the starring role is Korean actress Eun-woo Lee, who received international acclaim for her role in Moebius (directed by Ki-Duk Kim). The role of the teacher is played by Yasushi Fuchikami, who has appeared in films such as Strobe Edge.
Movie Adaption of “SKY SKY” by Prema-ja of Thailand
This film was directed by Shinji Kuma, who was also responsible for the drama version of Wakako-Zake. The father role is played by actor Jun Murakami, and the mother role is played by actress and model Akiko Kikuchi.
The music of both films were done by Sugar Me.
Both of these were made by professionals. As such, they may contain hints that you can use when you’re creating your movie!
We hope that you’ll all participate in the SMAC! MOVIE CONTEST!!
We’re searching for new talent out there! It doesn’t matter whether you’re a professional or an amateur, or what kind of equipment you use!
