A teaser trailer has just been released for next year’s much anticipated movie: Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. In terms of story-line, this movie picks up where Man of Steel (2013) left off. Zack Snyder will be directing again, but the new Clark Kent / Superman will be played by Henry Cavill.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice – Official Teaser Trailer
Thanks to the success of Marvel Avengers Assemble, superhero collaboration movies are becoming more common, but this will be the first time that multiple heroes from the DC comic universe feature in the same film.
However, unlike Marvel Avengers Assemble, where the heroes combine their powers to defeat the big baddie, in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the heroes will, as the title suggests, battle it out against each other.
Why should two heroes on the side of justice have to slug it out? Detailed information has yet to be revealed, but as far as we can tell from the trailer, Superman has achieved a near God-like status due to his destructive powers, and the only man willing to stand in his way is Batman. Is this about the alien Superman rebelling against mankind?
Despite his arsenal of new weapons, Batman, a mere human, shouldn’t be able to stand up to Superman. At least, that’s what you’d normally think, right? But we still don’t know what form their battle will take. I’m getting excited just imagining the possibilities!
And not to be outdone, this autumn in Japan, we’ll also be seeing the release of a manga-based movie that involves a clash of Japanese heroes: Cyborg 009 vs. Devilman.
Cyborg 009 vs. Devilman – Official Teaser Trailer
In 1973, there was a movie called Mazinger VS Devilman, but despite the “vs” in the title, they never actually fought. Instead, they combined their powers to defeat the monster, all the while making sarcastic remarks about each other. However, Cyborg 009 vs. Devilman will be different! Cyborg 009 is a team of 9 cyborg warriors, each with a unique power. Devilman is a man with the power of a demon, but a heart of justice. They’re about to confront each other in the worst possible way. The movie’s catchphrase is “Who will be left alive!?”
Once again, until the movie is released, we won’t know why they have to fight. But everyone is looking forward to seeing two classic Japanese heroes battle is out with their powers, and wondering how it will end.
In this way, there’s a trend of movies shifting from heroes working together, to heroes facing off. Which superheroes will we see at each other’s throats next? Personally, I’m hoping for a sexy east-meets-west collaboration of “Catwoman vs. Cutie Honey”!
